Born in Tokyo.
Lives and works in Berlin and Tokyo. Her background as both cook and artist has led Asako Iwama to organize a number of experimental workshops and field trips that explore the social dimensions of eating. Her more recent practice further investigates historical and technological shifts in relationships between natural elements and the body as material and subjectivity through physical engagement, including (re)modeling, sampling, tracing, and research.
From 2005 to 2014 she worked at Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin. She is founder of the collective group pop-up café. From 2019 to 2020 she participated at the Jan Van Eyck Academy in Maastricht.
